Seven techniques to help you relax....... ......... .

Today's fast-paced lifestyles force us to push our minds and bodies to the limit, usually at the expense of our physical and mental well-being. When we become stressed, our bodies switch to a mode called the 'fight or flight response', which is characterized by increased heart rate, blood pressure, higher breathing rate, etc. Over time, these reactions increase cholesterol levels, disturb intestinal activities, depress the immune system, and leave us feeling 'stressed out.'

"Relaxation techniques are great tools for dealing with stress and promoting long-term health by slowing down the body and calming the mind," says Ashish Verma, Hyderabad-based relaxation and wellness training consultant. "Used daily, these techniques can lead to a healthier outlook towards stressful situations and a decline in stress-related disorders such as anxiety, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, insomnia, etc."

Here are some techniques you might want to consider:

1. Deep breathing:

A simple but effective method of relaxation. "It works well in conjunction with other relaxation techniques such as Progressive Muscular Relaxation, imagery and meditation for reducing stress," says Ravi Tripathi, a yoga teacher based at Kanpur. Here's how to do it:

Inhale. Close your mouth, loosen your shoulders, and inhale as slowly and deeply as you can.

Hold. Keep the air in your lungs as you slowly count to 6.

Exhale. Release the air through your mouth, again slowly counting to 6.

Repeat. Go over the inhale-hold- exhale cycle 5-10 times.

2. Progressive Muscular Relaxation (PMR):

This is good for relaxing your body, especially when your muscles are tense. It requires slowly tensing and then releasing every muscle group individually, from the toes all the way up to the face. "It is useful for calming nerves before an important

presentation or performance, and for quieting down when you are highly stressed," says Ashish Verma.

3. Meditation:

"The concept behind meditation is to consciously relax your body and focus your thought processes on one particular thing for a prolonged period. Your mind thus remains occupied and diverted from issues causing you stress," says Tripathi. Follow these steps:

 Sit comfortable and quietly.

 Close your eyes.

Relax your body muscles (you can use a technique like Progressive Muscular Relaxation for this).

 Focus on your breathing.

Breathe in deeply, then exhale. Count your
breaths (gives you something to do with your mind, helping avoid distraction) .

Repeat this for 10 or 15 minutes.

4. Self-hypnosis:

"This is when you hypnotise yourself. Affirmations are often used -- positive statements we repeat to ourselves to counter stress and unpleasant thoughts. An example of an affirmation is 'I feel vibrant and alive. I love how I feel'," says Verma. Sit down at a quiet, comfortable place. Relax your body. Imagine waves of relaxation running down your body from your head downwards, washing away stress. Feel the muscles in your body relaxing as waves of relaxation wash over them.

Next, utilise suggestion to deepen the state of relaxation. You can do this by simply saying to yourself: 'I am tired and sleepy. I can feel my arms and legs getting heavier. I am becoming more and more tired

' Once you feel completely relaxed, add the affirmations you have prepared too.

5. Yoga:

If you have tried it, you already know that it can help you achieve your goals with more focus and renewed spirit. "Yogic breathing reduces blood pressure and brings intense relaxation.

Furthermore, it gives you improved appearance via better posture, muscle and skin-tone, if practiced regularly. Bones and muscles are strengthened and joints become more flexible. It is also amazing to see how much more positive a person's outlook on life becomes within just a few months of practice," says Tripathi.

6. Imagery:

You may have noticed how particular environments can be very relaxing, while others can be extremely stressful. This is the idea behind the use of imagery in stress reduction. "You use your imagination to recreate a scene, place or event that you recall as being relaxing, safe, peaceful, beautiful and happy. You can bring all your senses into the image by, for instance, imagining sounds of running water and birds, the smell of cut grass, etc. Use the imagined place as a peaceful retreat from stress and pressure," says Verma.

7. Music or suggestion CDs:

Another approach is listening to calming music or relaxation tapes. Soothing music has a lot of power to influence your thoughts and feelings. "It takes no effort from your side to listen to these. Moreover, they can be very welcome at the end of a long day," says Verma.

Examples of such audio CD titles are Yoga Nidra - Complete Relaxation by Yogacharya Arunkumar (approximately Rs 150) and Ragas for Relaxation (a collection of Indian classical music by various artists for approximately Rs 295).

With continued practice in the techniques enumerated above, you may experience renewed energy, better concentration, better ability to deal with problems, more efficiency in daily activities, less indigestion, headaches, nausea, and less frequent emotional responses like anger, anxiety, crying, anxiety, apprehension and frustration.

Sounds good, doesn't it? What are you waiting for?

Shiv Sena issues Champions Trophy threat over Pakistan

NEW DELHI: A right-wing Hindu group has threatened to prevent
Pakistan from playing in India in the Champions Trophy tournament
scheduled to start this week, officials said here on Wednesday.

The Shiv Sena (Lord Shiva's army) party, which holds sway in the
western Indian state of Maharashtra, said the step was to protest
against July's bombings of trains in provincial capital Mumbai that
killed 186 people.

"How can they allow Pakistan to play matches in our country when the
Mumbai police have evidence of its (Pakistan's) involvement in the
July 11 terror attack?" Shiv Sena executive president Udhav
Thackeray said in comments published on Wednesday.

Mumbai police chief A.N. Roy on Saturday publicly accused Pakistan's
spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), of orchestrating
the attacks on trains that also wounded 800. Thackeray did not
elaborate on the Shiv Sena's plans to hold up the Champions Trophy,
an International Cricket Council's (ICC) biennial event to be played
at four venues, including Mumbai, which will host the November 5
final.

Pakistan, one of the 10 participating countries, will fly to Mumbai
only if they reached the final. Two of their three league matches
are in the northern city of Mohali and the third in Jaipur. The
semifinals will also be held in Mohali and Jaipur.

Maharashtra authorities said it will not allow any disruptions if
Pakistan reach the final. "Right now it is a hypothetical question
but we are duty-bound to maintain law and order in the state,"
Maharshtra Home Secretary A.P. Sinha told from Mumbai. "We have the
warning but I will not issue comments on the remarks of a political
leader," said Sinha, who is in-charge of the state's internal
security.

Indian home ministry officials in New Delhi said Shiv Sena's threat
has been passed to Jaipur and Mohali. "Stadiums in these cities will
be sanitised and extra security will be provided in view of this
development, " a senior ministry official said.

Shiv Sena dug up the pitch in New Delhi's Ferozeshah Kotla ground in
1999, eight years after damaging the ground of Mumbai's Wankhede
Stadium to protest the Pakistani cricket team's presence in India.

Dear All....

Most of us do not know this. Do you know that there is an expiry date (physical life) for CNG cylinders? Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents. In this regard please be cautious at the time of accepting any CNG cylinder from the vendor.

Here is how we can check the expiry of CNG cylinders: On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded alpha numerically as follows; A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this

e.g. D06. The alphabets stand for quarters - A for
March (First Qtr), B - June (Second Qtr), C-Sept
(Third Qtr), D for December (Fourth Qtr). The digits
stand for the year till it is valid. Hence D06 would
mean December qtr of 2006.

How to survive a plane crash

By Milla Harrison
BBC Horizon
Graphic
Flying may be the safest form of transport, but many of the three million people who take to the air each day are terrified of crashing. Now more than ever, though, it's possible to survive a plane crash.
Most people believe that if they're in a plane crash their time is up. In fact the truth is surprisingly different. In the US alone between 1983 and 2000 there were 568 plane crashes. Out of the collective 53,487 people onboard, 51,207 survived.
The advances in science and technology now mean over 90% of plane crashes have survivors. And there are many things you can do to increase your chances of surviving such as:
• how to survive the moment of impact
• the life and death decisions you should make during the evacuation
• what to do if there is a fire onboard
• how to survive if your plane ditches into water
• statistically where you should sit to increase your chances of surviving
World leading aviation safety expert Professor Ed Galea has studied over 2,000 survivor reports and compiled a unique database.
Tom Barth
The important thing is to get your upper torso down as much as possible
Tom Barth
"Surviving an aircraft crash is not a matter of fate. You can help yourself getting out of an aircraft quickly, and so there are things you can do to improve your chances of surviving," says Mr Galea.
He has discovered what all these survivors were doing that got them off the plane alive and his findings are extraordinary. Time and time again many of the survivors struggled to undo their seatbelts.
"People tend to try and press a button on the seatbelt because in this emergency situation, they revert to normal behaviour. And what's normal behaviour for most people? Well, they experience a seatbelt in their car and in their car, it's a push-button system.
"This seat belt is different to what's in your car; it's a latch that you've got to pull."
If your plane is about to crash, you may be told to adopt the brace position - an important step says Tom Barth from AmSafe Aviation, an expert in how to survive an impact.
Graphic

"The brace position is a position that will offer you the best chance to survive in a crash because it stops you from flying forward and striking the seat or interior in front of you," says Mr Barth.
"The important thing is to get your upper torso down as much as possible, limiting the 'jackknife' effect from impact forces."
His team in Phoenix, Arizona, has developed the first airbag ever to be put onboard commercial aviation seats. It's a technology that has saved thousands of lives every year in the car industry and he's hoping it will do the same in the aviation world. It makes the seat safer and complements other safety technologies such as the fire resistant interior, to ensure that you stay conscious and are able evacuate the wreckage.
Helen Muir
Look around you and see where your nearest cabin crew are - they'll tell you what to do
Helen Muir
"The airbag is folded up in the seatbelt itself and deploys away from the occupant, making it safe for children and adults. The airbags inflate very rapidly in about 30 milliseconds, which is much faster than you can blink your eye."
Many plane crashes have a post-crash fire but it's not the flames that are likely to kill you, it's the toxic smoke. Smoke onboard is lethal; in just a few breaths you can pass out. And if you had to evacuate in smoke, finding your exit is very difficult.
But there is one simple step you can take which could increase your chances of getting off in the presence of smoke, says Mr Galea.
"I count the seat rows from my seating position to the exit. So in the event of smoke or if emergency lighting fails and it's very dark, I know the number of seat rows and I can feel my way to an exit. By counting the seat backs I'll know when I've reached the exit row."
Graphic
Professor Helen Muir, of Cranfield University, who studies the behaviour of passengers during evacuations, believes how you behave in those last few minutes can make the difference between life and death. She has her own "one simple step" suggestion.
"If you want to survive an aircraft accident, even though they're very infrequent, every time you get on an aeroplane you want to sit down and then make a plan," she says.
"In other words, look around you and see where your nearest cabin crew are, because they're the people who will tell you what to do and will make a huge difference. Then look where your nearest exits are, both in front, behind and across, and work out how you would get there."
But what about the one question that everyone wants to know - the Holy Grail in aviation safety is where to sit on a plane to increase one's chances of staying alive?
CRASH SURVIVOR
Mercedes
I felt like I was on a rollercoaster or something
watch
Mercedes Johnson survived the American Airlines Flight 965 which crashed into a Colombian mountain in 1995. Out of 159 onboard, only four lived and Ms Johnson believes where she sat played a role in her survival.
"The location where we were sitting was over the wing which was near the exit row and I've heard on numerous occasions that those rows are one of the safest areas to sit in because it's the most reinforced with metal," said Ms Johnson.
But sitting over the wings isn't always the best place, because you don't know how your plane is going to crash.
"I'm often asked, 'well, where should I sit in an aircraft to have the best chance of surviving?'" says Ms Muir, "and, sadly, I haven't got a good answer."
"They're unpredictable events, so you never know whether it's going to be a crash landing or whether you're going to have a fire in one of the engines. And this means you can't say where's the best place to sit."

Dear Folks / Sirs

Herewith I am just forwarding the information on the Awareness On Your Blood Pressure Status, which is self explanatory.

Picture (Device Independent Bitmap)

Human Blood Pressure Range Diagram

The 1st Number: Systolic pressure is the pressure generated when the heart contracts .

The 2nd Number: Diastolic pressure is the blood pressure when the heart is relaxed.

What is Normal Blood Pressure ? Buy and use a blood pressure monitor.
Compare your BP reading with the numbers on the chart above. Draw a line from your systolic pressure to your diastolic pressure.
Is the slope of the line about the same as shown on the chart? Where do YOU fit in? What are your risk factors?
Are your blood pressure readings within the normal blood pressure range?Should you take anti-hypertension medication to lower your blood pressure?

Normal human daily Blood Pressure Range can vary widely, so any single blood pressure monitor reading is not reliable. BP monitor readings must be taken at different times of day, to determine AVERAGE blood pressure over time.

What is important is your AVERAGE BP, or MAP (Mean Arterial Pressure) over time. Or, where are those numbers sitting MOST of the time?

Normal MAP is about 93 mm of mercury.

25 Reasons Why You Should Start Drinking Green
Tea Now.

Green tea has increasingly become a very popular drink worldwide because of its immensely powerful health benefits.
It is extraordinarily amazing what green tea can do for your health.
And if you're not drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea today, you're definitely NOT doing your health a big favor.

Here Are The 25 Reasons Why You Should Start Drinking Green Tea Right Now:

1. Green Tea and Cancer

Green tea helps reduce the risk of cancer.
The antioxidant in green tea is 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times better than vitamin E.
This helps your body at protecting cells from damage believed to be linked to cancer.

2. Green Tea and Heart Disease

Green tea helps prevent heart disease and stroke by lowering the level of cholesterol.
Even after the heart attack, it prevents cell deaths and speeds up the recovery of heart cells.

3. Green Tea and Anti-Aging

Green tea contains antioxidant known as polyphenols which fight against free radicals.
What this means it helps you fight against aging and promotes longevity.

4. Green Tea and Weight Loss

Green tea helps with your body weight loss. Green tea burns fat and boosts your metabolism rate naturally.
It can help you burn up to 70 calories in just one day.
That translates to 7 pounds in one year.

5. Green Tea and Skin

Antioxidant in green tea protects the skin from the harmful effects of free radicals, which cause wrinkling and skin aging.
Green tea also helps fight against skin cancer.

6. Green Tea and Arthritis

Green tea can help prevent and reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.
Green tea has benefit for your health as it protects the cartilage by blocking the enzyme that destroys cartilage.

7. Green Tea and Bones

The very key to this is high fluoride content found in green tea.
It helps keep your bones strong.
If you drink green tea every day, this will help you preserve your bone density.

8. Green Tea and Cholesterol

Green tea can help lower cholesterol level.
It also improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol, by reducing bad cholesterol level.

9. Green Tea and Obesity

Green tea prevents obesity by stopping the movement of glucose in fat cells.
If you are on a healthy diet, exercise regularly and drink green tea, it is unlikely you'll be obese.

10. Green Tea and Diabetes

Green tea improves lipid and glucose metabolisms, prevents sharp increases in blood sugar level, and balances your metabolism rate.

11. Green Tea and Alzheimer's

Green tea helps boost your memory.
And although there's no cure for Alzheimer's, it helps slow the process of reduced acetylcholine in the brain, which leads to Alzheimer's.

12. Green Tea and Parkinson's

Antioxidants in green tea helps prevent against cell damage in the brain, which could cause Parkinson's. People drinking green tea also are less likely to progress with Parkinson's.

13. Green Tea and Liver Disease

Green tea helps prevent transplant failure in people with liver failure. Researches showed that green tea destroys harmful free radicals in fatty livers.

14. Green Tea and High Blood Pressure

Green tea helps prevent high blood pressure.
Drinking green tea helps keep your blood pressure down by repressing angiotensin, which leads to high blood pressure.

15. Green Tea and Food Poisoning

Catechin found in green tea can kill bacteria which causes food poisoning and kills the toxins produced by those bacteria.

16. Green Tea and Blood Sugar

Blood sugar tends to increase with age, but polyphenols and polysaccharides in green tea help lower your blood sugar level.

17. Green Tea and Immunity

Polyphenols and flavenoids found in green tea help boost your immune system, making your health stronger in fighting against infections.

18. Green Tea and Cold and Flu

Green tea prevents you from getting a cold or flu.
Vitamin C in green tea helps you treat the flu and the common cold.

19. Green Tea and Asthma

Theophylline in green tea relaxes the muscles which support the bronchial tubes, reducing the severity of asthma.

20. Green Tea and Ear Infection

Green tea helps with ear infection problem.
For natural ear cleaning, soak a cotton ball in green tea and clean the infected ear.

21. Green Tea and Herpes

Green tea increases the effectiveness of topical interferon treatment of herpes.
First green tea compress is applied, and then let the skin dry before the interferon treatment.

22. Green Tea and Tooth Decay

Green tea destroys bacteria and viruses that cause many dental diseases.
It also slows the growth of bacteria which leads to bad breath.

23. Green Tea and Stress

L-theanine, which is a kind of amino acids in green tea, can help relieve stress and anxiety.

24. Green Tea and Allergies

EGCG found in green tea relieves allergies.
So, if you have allergies, you should really consider drinking green tea.

25. Green Tea and HIV

Scientists in Japan have found that EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) in green tea can stop HIV from binding to healthy immune cells.
What this means is that green tea can help stop the HIV virus from spreading.

I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage at the SJMC ICU when his platelet count dropped to 15 after blood transfusion also.

His father was so worried that he sought another friend's recommendation and his son was saved. He confessed to me that he give his son raw juice of the papaya leaves. From a platelet count as low as 45 after blood transfusion, it jumped to 135 after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. So he asked me to pass this good news around.

Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves 2 pcs just clean and pound and squeeze the juice thro cloth filter. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf.  So, use two tablespoons per serving once a day. No need to boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will lose its strength. Only the leafy part has to be taken, no stem or sap. It is very bitter and you have to swallow it. But it works wonders!!!!

Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue

You may have heard this elsewhere, but if not, I am glad to inform you that papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is rampant now, I think it's good to share this with all.

A friend of mine had dengue last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water had started to fill in her lungs. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-years old. Doctor said there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle.

She already had 2 blood transfusions and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted.

Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeezed the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever subsided. She was given papaya juice regularly and she recovered after 3 days!!! Amazing but true.

Papaya juice has a cooling effect thus, it helps to reduce the heat in one's body. I found that its also good when one is having sore throat.

Polio screening for Hajj pilgrims

By David Bamford
BBC News
Muslim pilgrims in Saudi Arabia
Millions of Muslims attend the annual pilgrimage
Saudi Arabia says Muslims on the Hajj pilgrimage must have polio immunisation certificates if they come from one of states where the disease is endemic.
The requirement affects people from Nigeria, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Saudi authorities say.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned there could be a resurgence of the virus unless it is eradicated.
Fears of a plot to sterilise Muslim girls have hampered polio vaccination campaigns in some Muslim countries.
For good measure, pilgrims arriving from Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India will be given an extra dose of polio vaccine as they arrive in Saudi Arabia.
New outbreaks
A few years ago, the WHO came close to wiping out this paralysing disease for good.
The fruits of a vigorous 20-year campaign were becoming clear as the numbers of child victims dropped from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands, and finally down to a few hundred restricted to just four countries - Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.
Then things started to go wrong, particularly in northern Nigeria, where certain local politicians starting spreading false rumours that the polio immunisation programme was an American plot to sterilise Muslim girls.
The programme went into reverse, and new outbreaks were recorded spreading well beyond the endemic regions.
So Saudi Arabia has imposed new restrictions ahead of the December Hajj.
Pilgrims from Nigeria and South Asia will only be issued a visa when they produce a certificate showing they have been immunised against polio.
Saudi Deputy Health Minister Yacoub Yousef al-Mazrui said Muslims in Nigeria and the three other endemic countries should face no problems.
"Fortunately, the vaccine is so cheap that it doesn't cost much and it's available everywhere in Nigeria, because Nigeria is holding more and more campaigns for vaccinating their children against poliomyelitis," he said.

KARACHI: Dengue may accompany Chikungunya, warns expert

KARACHI, Oct 28: There is a strong suspicion that Chikungunya (CHIK) is spreading along with the dengue haemorrhagic fever, in Pakistan, Prof Mohammad Rafiq Khanani, President of the Infection Control Society of Pakistan, warned here on Saturday.

Referring to the fact that there are hundreds of non-specified VHF cases among the patients reporting at local hospitals, he said the Dengue and Chikungunya could infect a person at the same time. “Chikungunya or CHIK virus is transmitted by the same species of mosquito which transmits Dengue i.e. Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus (the Asian Tiger Mosquito).”

Symptoms and signs of Chikungunya are said to be similar to those of Dengue and are characterized by sudden onset of fever, headache, malaise, arthralgia or arthritis.

Fever typically lasts three to seven days but full recovery is the usual outcome, according to Dr Khanani.

White Blood Corpuscles (WBC) and platelet are also reduced and skin rash and haemorrhage are seen in a large number of Chikungunya cases. However, tests for CHIK are not commercially available, hence its diagnosis is delayed. There is no specific treatment for CHIK either.

As the disease is spread by the same type of mosquito, preventive measures are also the same. For personal protection, mosquito repellents, mustard oil and other such lotions may be applied on the exposed parts of the body.

Mosquito nets impregnated with permetherin can also be used along with the application of regular insecticide sprays both indoors and outdoors.

Dr Khanani pointed out that even triple infections — Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya — had also been reported in India which was facing a scary outbreak of Chikungunya fever with more than 1.25 million suspected cases having been reported during the current year.

“Several other countries in the southwest Indian Ocean have also reported Chikungunya cases in recent months,” he said, adding that a few European countries and USA had also reported the cases, though imported.—APP

SEVEN DANGERS OF LIFE
Don't Do's After Meal

[Danger 1]
Don't smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette
after meal is comparable to smoking ten cigarettes (chances of cancer is
higher).

[Danger 2]
Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals
will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit one to two hours after
meal or one hour before meal.

[Danger 3]
Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid.
This substance will cause the Protein content in the food consumed to be
hardened and thus difficult to digest.

[Danger 4]
Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily
cause the intestine to be twisted and blocked.

[Danger 5]
Don't bathe - Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands,
legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore
decrease.  This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

[Danger 6]
Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live to be ninety nine. In actual fact this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.

[Danger 7]
Don't sleep immediately - The food one intakes will not be able to digest
properly. Thus will lead to gastric and infection in the intestine.

Domestic Abuse in America
  • 4 million American women experience a serious assault by a partner during an average 12-month period. 1
  • On the average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends every day.2
  • 92% of women say that reducing domestic violence and sexual assault should be at the top of any formal efforts taken on behalf of women today.3
  • 1 out of 3 women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.4
  • 1 in 5 female high school students reports being physically and / or sexually abused by a dating partner. Abused girls are significantly more likely to get involved in other risky behaviors. They are 4 to 6 times more likely to get pregnant and 8 to 9 times more likely to have tried to commit suicide. 5
  • 1 in 3 teens reports knowing a friend or peer who has been hit, punched, slapped, choked or physically hurt by his / her partner.6
  • Women of all races are equally vulnerable to violence by an intimate partner.7
  • 37% of all women who sought care in hospital emergency rooms for violence–related injuries were injured by a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend.8
  • Some estimates say almost 1 million incidents of violence occur against a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend per year. 9
  • For 30% of women who experience abuse, the first incident occurs during pregnancy.10
  • As many as 324,000 women each year experience intimate partner violence during their pregnancy. 11
  • Violence against women costs companies $72.8 million annually due to lost productivity.12
  • 74% of employed battered women were harassed by their partner while they were at work.13
  • Ninety-four percent of the offenders in murder-suicides were male.14
  • Seventy-four percent of all murder-suicides involved an intimate partner(spouse, common-law spouse, ex-spouse, or boyfriend/girlfriend). Of these, 96 percent were females killed by their intimate partners. 14
  • Most murder-suicides with three or more victims involved a "family annihilator" -- a subcategory of intimate partner murder-suicide. Family annihilators are murderers who kill not only their wives/girlfriends and children, but often other family members as well, before killing themselves. 14
  • Seventy-five percent of murder-suicides occurred in the home.14

Subject: VITAMIN D
muradalibana
Send Email Send Email

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a vitamin (a substance the body requires in small doses for proper nutrition and function) that is fat-soluble, meaning that it is dissolved and stored in the fat of your body. Vitamin D maintains proper levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood and together with calcium builds strong bones. The November 9, 2005, issue of JAMA contains an article about sufficient levels of vitamin D for healthy bones.

SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE

Sun exposure for 10 to 15 minutes at least twice a week usually provides adequate amounts of vitamin D. Certain conditions such as cloud cover, northern climates, pollution, and the winter months may not provide adequate sunlight exposure. Excess sun exposure causes skin cancer, so you should limit exposure to sunlight, not use tanning beds, and wear protective clothing and a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 when outdoors for longer than 10 to 15 minutes twice a week. Infants should be kept out of direct sunlight all together.

VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY

When vitamin D levels are low, bones become weak and brittle. In children, vitamin D deficiency causes a disease called rickets, which results in poorly developed weak bones, delayed growth, immune deficiencies, and, when severe, seizures. In adults, vitamin D deficiency causes a disease called osteomalacia, which results in weak bones, fractures, bone pain, and weakness. Low levels of vitamin D may be a factor in osteoporosis (thin bones).

WHO IS AT RISK OF DEVELOPING VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY?

  • Infants who are exclusively breast-fed or receiving less than about 2 cups a day of vitamin D–fortified formula or milk
  • People who have darker-pigmented skin
  • People with very limited sunlight exposure
  • People with fat malabsorption diseases, such as pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, and surgical resection of the bowel
  • People who have liver or kidney disease or enzyme deficiencies
  • People in the northern hemisphere during winter

HOW MUCH VITAMIN D DO YOU NEED?

For infants to adults aged 50 years, the daily adequate intake is 200 international units (IU) of vitamin D. For adults aged 51 to 70 years, 400 IU is required, and for those older than 70 years, 600 IU is recommended. Discuss with your doctor the proper vitamin D intake and sun exposure for you and whether you should take a supplement, especially if you are at risk of developing a deficiency. Too much vitamin D can occur from taking excess vitamin D supplements and can cause serious problems, such as nausea, vomiting, and weakness or even confusion and heart rhythm abnormalities.

Life-saving pump lets heart heal

Image of heart and lungs
The heart can become enlarged in heart failure
UK experts say an artificial pump that rejuvenates dying hearts could save thousands of lives.
Three-quarters of the patients who took part in a trial of the mechanical heart at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital made a recovery.
The temporary pump, combined with a cocktail of drugs, lets the failing heart rest and repair itself.
Surgeons told the New England Journal of Medicine the therapy could remove the need for heart transplantation.
Life-saver
The mechanical devices, known as Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), are currently used in patients with very severe heart failure whilst they await transplantation.
But a shortage of donor organs means some never get a new heart.
The new therapy has the potential to ease the pressure on the waiting list while also offering patients a better alternative to a donor heart - their own, healthy heart, say the researchers.
Image of how it works
The device is implanted by surgeons
For the study, experts from Imperial College London and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust gave the full combination therapy to 15 severely ill patients.
Of these 15, 11 recovered. Eight of these patients were alive and free of heart failure or transplantation more than four years later.
Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, from the Heart Science Centre at Imperial and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust, said: "We are impressed by the dramatic, sustained improvement in the condition of these severely ill patients.
"The improvement observed was far greater than what has been reported to date for any other therapy.
"The study also highlights the fact that 'end stage' heart failure can be reversed and that the heart has the capacity to regenerate itself.
We need to know exactly what part of this treatment regimen is responsible for the recovery of heart function
Professor Peter Weissberg, medical director of the BHF
"It therefore stimulates the search for other strategies and more therapeutic targets in this expanding field of regenerative therapy."
The British Heart Foundation, which supported the research, stressed that the technique was only suitable for certain patients.
Professor Peter Weissberg, medical director of the BHF, explained it could help some who develop severe heart failure as a result of a disease which weakens their heart muscle, but not those with the more common coronary heart disease, which damages the heart as a result of a lack of blood supply.
He added: "The study raises several important questions which will need answering in future clinical studies - we need to know exactly what part of this treatment regimen is responsible for the recovery of heart function, and which patients can benefit from it."
The LVAD takes on the work of one of the heart's four chambers, the left ventricle, which pumps oxygen-rich blood from the heart around the body.

10 Ways to Get Involved in Your Child’s School

You want your child to be an active learner, but how can you become more active in your child's school? And does it make a difference?
Assuming an active role in your child's school experience may be more valuable than you think. While many factors contribute to academic achievement, students reap the benefits when parents are involved in their education. According to the US Department of Education, students with involved parents generally have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, more motivation, better self-esteem, improved graduation rates, and a greater likelihood of pursuing a postsecondary education. It's time to jump in and get involved!

Finding the Right Role
Examine your strengths to determine how you can make a lasting impact. A behind-the-scenes person might enjoy setting up for special events, while others may prefer a more visible leadership role in the school community. Consider whether your talents would be best used working with children or adults.
Next, look at your schedule and consider how much time you have to spare. Would you prefer to become involved in the classroom regularly or on a committee with limited meeting times? Regardless of your schedule or personal style, there are countless meaningful ways you can get involved in your child's school.

1. School Council

A school council or advisory board assists the principal in fulfilling the school's core values or mission statement. These organizations often include parents, teachers, and other members of the school community. Such an organization is a perfect venue for parents to learn about school issues as they emerge and then raise concerns, offer recommendations, or make suggestions. Committees are generally task-oriented, allowing small groups of parents and teachers to focus on specific issues related to the school community.

2. Newcomers Committee

It's never easy to be the new kid in town. Matching new students and their families with host families connects newcomers with people willing to answer questions and offer assistance. As a member of the school's newcomers committee, you may work with other parents to coordinate a welcome picnic and an informational meeting for new members of the school community. If empathy and hospitality are your gifts, this could be the committee for you.

3. Join the School Crisis Team

School crisis teams are often comprised of a small group of parents, teachers, school support staff, and the principal. These teams are responsible for establishing and fine tuning a protocol to follow should a crisis occur. Parent volunteers can play an essential role by volunteering to design and implement phone chains if information needs to be disseminated to the school community efficiently. Parents may also be asked to organize a place for members of the school community to gather and process crisis events together. Take-charge and empathetic people are perfect candidates for this committee.

4. Be a Room Parent

Calling all social butterflies! If you like spending time with children, consider serving in your child's classroom as a room parent. Teachers often look for a small group of parents to plan fun events for the class, including holiday parties and birthday celebrations. Room parents usually contact other parents in the classroom to coordinate food and activities for these special events. If you are organized, creative, and a natural events planner, this could be the place for you.

5. Assist in the Classroom

Working with kids and watching their learning unfold can be very rewarding. Ask your child's teacher if there are any opportunities to volunteer in the classroom. Teachers often appreciate a set of helping hands during busy learning times such as writing workshop or center exploration. Spending time in your child's classroom gives you a sense of the classroom culture and how your child relates to his or her peers, too.

6. Be an Administrative Angel

If you like making copies, collating packets, designing bulletin boards, cutting out shapes, or organizing materials, ask your child's teacher if there are projects she'd like you to work on. Having someone help with the busywork involved in preparing for an upcoming unit or event can be invaluable. Your child's teacher might ask you to handle monthly book orders, prepare center activity supplies, or organize books. This behind-the-scenes role is perfect for the well organized, task-oriented person.

7. Raise Funds for Your School

Schools are always looking for ways to supplement their education budgets. Join or form a committee at your school designed to brainstorm fundraisers that will raise money used to enrich all aspects of school life. There are several ways to raise money for your school. Look into General Mills' Box Tops for Education or Campbell's® Labels for Education™ as easy ways for all families to contribute. Or check into fundraising programs that exchange money for old cell phones and printer cartridges. Try launching a wrapping paper/gift items drive to raise money. Or go high-tech with online fundraising opportunities that offer a percentage of sales at "shopping malls" linked to popular stores such as Amazon.com. The fundraising opportunities are limitless—you just need a little creativity and a team of dedicated parents.

8. Be a Super Chaperone

Teachers need parents to accompany the class on field trips or to special events. When your child's class leaves the school, parent chaperones help keep track of students in unfamiliar surroundings. Chaperoning allows you to learn and experience new things with the students while spending time with your child and his or her classmates.

9. Put Your Writing Talent to Work

If you can gather information and write a well-organized paper, consider putting your talent to work by writing grants for your school. The school staff is constantly searching for innovative ways to improve education, yet limited budgets often hamper their efforts. Grant writing is the perfect solution to this common funding problem! There are thousands of grant writing opportunities offered to both public and private schools. You can volunteer your writing talent to work with teachers who have targeted grant opportunities. Even if you don't have previous grant writing experience, there are many resource websites available to those who are interested in grant writing. The hours you put in writing the grant could mean big rewards for your school.

10. Connect with the Community

Learning a new concept is infinitely more meaningful when students understand the way it relates to the real world. Join or create a committee that helps your school create partnerships with local businesses or organizations. Field trips allow kids to learn abstract concepts in a more concrete way. Enhance a unit on nutrition with a trip to the local grocery store, visit the pet shop to add some pizzazz to a unit on animal habitats, or boost a unit on government and politics with a trip to the town hall. Allowing children the chance to hear from and speak with the experts on these topics gives way to more authentic learning and support members of the community.
Getting involved in your child's school experience will benefit your child and the school in many ways—but don't underestimate how these experiences will benefit you! Feeling connected and making a contribution to something you believe in may be the greatest reward of all.

About Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer occurs when the cells of the prostate begin to grow uncontrollably. When caught and treated early, prostate cancer has a cure rate of over 90%.
Yet being diagnosed with prostate cancer can be a life-altering experience. It requires making some very difficult decisions about treatments that can affect not only the life of the man diagnosed, but also the lives of his family members in significant ways for many years to come.
More than 234,000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, and each and every one of them will need to make very personal and individualized decisions about treatment options and diet and lifestyle changes. Most importantly, each and every one of them will have to find a strong, knowledgeable team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to help guide him through the process at each step of the way.
Prostate Cancer Symptoms

If the cancer is caught at its earliest stages, most men will not experience any symptoms.  Some men, however, will experience symptoms that might indicate the presence of prostate cancer, including:
  • A need to urinate frequently, especially at night;
  • Difficulty starting urination or holding back urine;
  • Weak or interrupted flow of urine;
  • Painful or burning urination;
  • Difficulty in having an erection;
  • Painful ejaculation;
  • Blood in urine or semen; or
  • Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs.
Because these symptoms can also indicate the presence of other diseases or disorders, men who experience any of these symptoms will undergo a thorough work-up to determine the underlying cause of the symptoms.
FAQs About Prostate Cancer

How common is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting 1 in 6 men.
In 2006, more than 234,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die from the disease. One new case occurs every 2.25 minutes and a man dies from prostate cancer every 19 minutes.
It is estimated that there are more than 2 million American men currently living with prostate cancer. Visit the About Prostate Cancer section for more information.

How does prostate cancer compare with other cancers?
A non-smoking man is more likely to develop prostate cancer than he is to develop lung/bronchus, colon, rectal, bladder, melanoma, lymphoma and kidney cancers combined. In fact, a man is 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Visit the About Prostate Cancer section for more information.

Are some men more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer?
Older age, African American race, and a family history of the disease can all increase the likelihood of a man being diagnosed with the disease.
As men increase in age, their risk of developing prostate cancer increases exponentially. Although only 1 in 10,000 under age 40 will be diagnosed, the rate shoots up to 1 in 38 for ages 40 to 59, and 1 in 14 for ages 60 to 69. More than 65% of all prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over the age of 65.
African American men are 61% more likely to develop prostate cancer compared with Caucasian men and nearly 2.5 times as likely to die from the disease.
Men with a single first-degree relative—father, brother or son—with a history of prostate cancer are twice as likely to develop the disease, while those with two or more relatives are nearly four times as likely to be diagnosed. The risk is highest in men whose family members were diagnosed before age 65. Visit the Risk Factors for Prostate Cancer section for more information.

How curable is prostate cancer?
As with all cancers, "cure" rates for prostate cancer describe the percentage of patients likely remaining disease-free for a specific time. In general, the earlier the cancer is caught, the more likely it is for the patient to remain disease-free.
Because approximately 90% of all prostate cancers are detected in the local and regional stages, the cure rate for prostate cancer is very high—nearly 100% of men diagnosed at this stage will be disease-free after five years. By contrast, in the 1970s, only 67% of men diagnosed with local or regional prostate cancer were disease-free after five years. Visit the About Prostate Cancer section for more information.

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?
If the cancer is caught at its earliest stages, most men will not experience any symptoms. Some men, however, will experience symptoms such as frequent, hesitant, or burning urination, difficulty in having an erection, or pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs.
Because these symptoms can also indicate the presence of other diseases or disorders, men who experience any of these symptoms will undergo a thorough work-up to determine the underlying cause of the symptoms. Visit the Prostate Cancer Symptoms section for more information.

If there are no symptoms, how is prostate cancer detected?
Screening for prostate cancer can be performed in a physician’s office using two tests: the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test and the digital rectal exam (DRE).
The American Cancer Society recommends that both the PSA and DRE should be offered annually, beginning at age 50, to men who have at least a 10-year life expectancy. Men at high risk, such as African American men and men with a strong family history of one or more first-degree relatives diagnosed at an early age should begin testing at age 45. Men at even higher risk, due to multiple first-degree relatives affected at an early age, could begin testing at age 40. Visit the Detection & Screening section for more information.

How is prostate cancer treated?
There are a wide variety of treatment options available for men with prostate cancer, including surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy, any or all of which might be used at different times depending on the stage of disease and the need for treatment.
Consultation with all three types of prostate cancer specialists—a urologist, a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist—will offer the most comprehensive assessment of the available treatments and expected outcomes. Visit the Treatment section for more information.

Where can I find more information about the different treatment options for prostate cancer?
Additional information about prostate cancer can be found in Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer: A Guide for Men and Their Families. You can read the entire Guide online, order a paper copy, or download the Guide in pdf format by visiting www.prostatecancerf oundation. org/guide.

What is the Prostate Cancer Foundation doing to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer?
The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993, the PCF has raised more than $260 million and provide funding for prostate cancer research to more than 1,200 researchers at 100 institutions worldwide. The PCF also advocates for greater awareness of prostate cancer and more governmental resources, resulting in a 20-fold increase in government funding for prostate cancer.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation has accomplished a great deal, but there is still much more to do. Please join us in this race to find a cure for prostate cancer.

Dear fellow member,

Visit these following WebPages to learn more about the silent killer Mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).
Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. There is no association between mesothelioma and smoking………..

India to streamline visa procedures for Pakistanis
K J M Varma Islamabad, Nov 26 (PTI) India has taken steps to streamline visa procedures for Pakistanis and will possibly increase their issuance from the current level of 8000 a month. At present around 500 people queue up for five days a week at the visa counters at the back of the highly guarded Indian High Commission here jostling with each other to slip in their applications. "We want to change all that, at least from our side and want to make it more pleasant and easier for those hundreds of Pakistanis wanting to visit India," the new Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Satyabrata Pal told PTI. Efforts were on to clear the pent-up demand which itself is quite high, he said. However, at the same time Pal sounded cautious about the process, noting the current bilateral visa regime is extremely restrictive. There is a plan to dispense away with the queue system and follow a token system in which the applicants would be called to submit and collect visas, Pal said. "All this would take time but as of now the attempt is streamline the procedures, make it easier for the over loaded staff but at the same time step up the numbers," he said Efforts were on to step up group visas to facilitate tourist flows. On the steps being taken to streamline the visa issuance procedure, Pal said to begin with the number of visa counters have been increased from five to nine with special counters for women and persons above 65 years in recent weeks to ease pressure on sometimes unmanageable queues.PTI

BELOW ARE THE NOTES FROM ONE OF A PATIENT (Noorali) OF LARYNGECTOMY CA. I personally salute this man for all his hard work he is doing for the community.   MURAD

Today received a booklet from Laryngectomee Association of Thailand, and have re-typed it

Printout of this in English and Urdu, would be suitable for New Patients, for their encouragement for future life, and atleast a satisfaction, that there  is a way for speaking again

  1. Bye Bye Cancer
Most of the Laryngectomy victims lost he larynx due to smoking, liquor, pan chewing etc. The toxicity of cigarettes not only wipes out all the assets, health, out also the lives

Hundred thousands or millions of people die of emphysema

The same amount pass away of heart failure

Definitely all-laryngeal cancers are fatal, but their lives many pull through if the operations have done in time. They are still alive, even though they become voiceless, there is chance they can start to voice rehabilitate

Both body and mind.

  1. Never give in Life
After 2-3 days of surgical larynx operation, they will eel painful, weary and exhausted. It is the time of excruciating while they cough, be suckled the phlegm

After one week the patient can stand up walk and ear. The physical strength will soon regain. Reading books, and taking a rest.

3.Start recovery from illness
While staying for convalescence at the hospital, they should try to walk around the Beds, the building, enjoy eating food and drink a lot of water.

4. Immediate family
Families are like beautiful and aromatic flowers that take care of patients beside their bed.

Never stay away from the patient
They send thought waves to Laryngectomees to regain energy.

5. Keep off bad temper
Almost all the Laryngectomees always have short tempera because of the lost of voice. They tend to enrage and ruin the belongings and let off their emotion against their families.

Being calm and continue rehabilitation
Never feel stress, never become discouraged, will prolong life.

6.Monitor the cough
Deep Breath and keep on swallowing saliva, severe cough will lessen.
In case having tube in the stoma, they should hold at the edge of the tube with the fingers before coughing.

If he tube rub against the bronchia while coughing it will only trigger more coughing that will worsen the health.

7. New Stoma
Immediately after the surgical larynx, patient cannot breathe through the nose at all, but through the new stoma at the neck.

Being a round hole, the new stoma is where dust or any disguise things can easily enter into the lung.

The hole should be covered with stoma cover. The cover should always be kept in strict hygiene.

The stoma must be covered all day and the cover must be washed everyday.

By washing he cover with detergent or boiled water and wash by hands, the cover will be durable the whole year.

8.Taking Bath
While taking a bath or showering, they should slowly clean one shoulder at a time and from top down.

While washing he face, they must be careful not to splash water, it may enter the stoma. If the water enter into the stoma, that will make a severe cough.

9.Having a Shampoo
By bending forward the bowing the head, they can wet the hair by pouring water n their head before applying shampoo. Rinse it out in the same manner.

Having finished shampoo, they should squeeze water out then lift their face, stand straight, but be careful the water enters the stoma into the lung. That might cause severe cough.

10. Having Meals
All food can be taken but avoid fried or solid food, it might scrape the pharynx and cause severe cough.

Avoiding strong flavored food or it might irritate they pharynx and cause bad cough.

11. Plenty of Food.
Have food as much as they can, but be careful while chewing or swallowing. It might, irritate the pharynx and cause severe cough.

Knowing that it might cause sudden cough in front of guests or in the party, they should try to hold the breath, take deep breath and walk away for coughing.

12. Drink a lot of Water
Water is vital for human being and Laryngectomy patients are just alike. Drink a lot of water each day.

Especially the patients who have had undergone a larynx as well as bring given a radiation treatment, they should drink a lot of water so as to refresh the esophagus and be strong.

13. Cool Weather
Staying in cool weather or in air-conditioned room will cause clear phlegm to turn into parched phlegm.

Te small pieces of parched phlegm may fall into the lungs. The lungs reject and expel all foreign things out with severe cough. This reaction causes fracture of the capillary and bleeding. The phlegm mix with blood becomes a big blockage that makes berating difficult.

The parched phlegm, which becomes big and solid, may block the breath through the pharynx. That is very dangerous.

Solving
The parched phlegm in the stoma should be regularly clean with cotton wool. (Or cotton bud)

The stoma cover usually have an inside pocket for keeping a apiece of wet cloth. This will refresh breathing.

14. Going Out
Tissue paper should be available for use.
Double sheet tissues are suitable for Laryngectomees to carry while traveling. This kind of tissue paper sells one-pack 500 sheets at cheap price

Otherwise roll tissue can be torn into separate sheets. This kind of tissue is quite economical.

15. Never Despair in life.
Most of the Laryngectomees, after having lost the larynx, do not have someone to take care or accompany when going out, they are in despair. Some may be fed up of life. They prefer not to go out alone because voice communication has become a big  challenge.

Solving

Keep away from despair by avoiding these thought.

Try not to feel dejected or fed up of life, which is impermanent.

Be self-help as much as possible. Wherever they want to go alone, do not , hesitate to do so. They should prepare a piece of paper and a pencil so as  to write down any message, they want to inform any person or try to speak out. Event though it may be voiceless people will understand by reading the movement of the lips.

16. Change of Behavior
Most of the Laryngectomees having surgical laryngeal cancer are derived from smoking and drinking.

Many laryngectomee, after having been operated the larynx are still so besotted with smoking and drinking.

Smoking through the mouth may no longer be tasty, they will try to smoke through the stoma. Smoking into the lung directly is tasty but the body cannot tolerate this for long. Soon they will pass away.

Lots of Laryngectomees keep on drinking without paying attention their  health.

Keep on drinking and drinking and soon die of kidney failure or other form of cancer.

17. Identify card for the disabled
All the Laryngectomees , who after having undergone a laryngeal cancer, can apply for a medical certificate so as to certify that they have no vocal cord. They are now voiceless and cannot communicate with anyone. They become completely the disable person.

For the sake of protecting the right of the disable they should apply for this identity card, which may improve the quality of life.

18. Free Tickets
Not applicable here in Pakistan

19. Discount ticket for train
Not applicable here in Pakistan

20.Laryngectomees Groups
All the Laryngectomees who have had undergone they larynx operation and regained the strength, should practice the esophageal speech at the Laryngectomees groups, which locate near heir residence

All of the Laryngectomees groups provide free training n esophageal speech. Provide free of charge on speech training lessons.

Handbooks for improving rehabilitation and learning esophageal speech are being provided free of charge.

Some group’s even hand out stoma covers. Some Laryngectomees groups provide tea, coffee, biscuit and snack during training.

Try to participate in the activities held by the Laryngectomees groups. They may be acquainted with friends, who are also Laryngectomees. They might exchange off ideas help and support each other’s.
21. Pay attention to practicing

Pay attention to esophageal speech training. They should have confidence to achieving some day, with the attentive practice, they will soon be able to communicate with their families and communities.

22. Welcome to all Laryngectomees groups

All the Laryngectomees groups provide the same esophageal speech training.
A lot of Laryngectomees have attended many places.

Finally they’re proud of speaking.

24 Correct Voice
