Of all the anxiety disorders and most of the mental health problems, social anxiety disorder (social phobia) is the least understood.
Social anxiety was the last anxiety disorder to be "discovered", and continues to be last in terms of public and professional understanding and awareness. Only recently has any kind of light been shed on this from the media.
Nearly 15% of the general population suffers from some form of social anxiety, which can be a severely debilitating emotional problem.
The vast majority of people with social anxiety do not know that they have it. They know there is something "wrong", but they do not know what.
This is a place for those looking for advice and support. Whether you suffer from SAD/SP, use to suffer from it, or you know someone who does. This group was created out of a need for more information and support for those going through SAD and for those who know someone who is, perhaps even someone like a spouse or family member.
Social Anxiety is never easy. This group is here to act as a gateway for those who know a good deal about SAD and a place for advice/information to those who know very little.
I will work hard to make sure that this group is a positive place for all members. As a result posts from New Members will be moderated until they show that they can enter the conversations with maturity. I will not tolerate negative remarks that are meant to degrade, bully, or to try and provoke other members of the group. The SAD group here is meant to help people through this not condemn them, or chastise them for choices or opinions others may have. I thank you all in advance for abiding by my wishes for this group.
This group has videos, articles, books excerpts, newsletters, links, photos, med lists, quotes, poetry, CBT info, treatment ideas, book lists, hotlines, polls, friendly, helpful members.
